World Press Photo ’04 — Тель-Авив, Дизенгофф Центр, 3.12 — 31.12

Фотовыставка «World Press Photo» проводится более 40 лет и за время своего существования ей удалось получить всемирное признание и заслужить репутацию одной из самых авторитетных выставок работ профессиональных фотографов.

В конкурсе «World Press Photo» 2004 года, который проходил в 47-й раз, приняло участие 4,176 фотографов из 124 стран мира, представивших на конкурс рекордное число конкурсных работ — 63,093, при этом продолжает расти число работ, поданных в цифровом формате.

По результатам заседания жюри, которое проходило в Амстердаме с 1 по 12 февраля, были присвоены награды по 10 номинациям 62 фотографам из 23 стран и отобраны фотографии для выставки «World Press Photo» 2004 года.

Главный приз присужден цветной работе французского фотографа Жан-Марка Божу, агентство «Associated Press».

Iraqi man comforts his son at a holding center for prisoners of war, An Najaf, Iraq, 31 March

An Iraqi man comforts his four-year-old son at a holding center for prisoners of war, in the base camp of the US Army 101st Airborne Division near An Najaf, southern Iraq, on March 31. The boy had become terrified when, according to orders, his father was hooded and handcuffed. A US soldier later severed the plastic handcuffs so that the man could comfort his child. Hoods were placed over detainees’ heads because they were quicker to apply than blindfolds. The military said the bags were used to disorientate prisoners and to protect their identities. It is not known what happened to the man or his son.
